Light a fire with a battery and a piece of foil from a chewing gum packet?

I was watching bear grylls running wild with zac efron he was lighting a fire with a AA battery and a piece of chewing gum wrapper cut the foil so there's a thin bit in the middle then connect the positive and negative with the paper and it lit a fire. I was amazed like anyone heard of this before?
