hey guy i was wondering how many of you's use a lensatic compass

if any of you still use a trusty compass ^^

these are my compass ^^

in order A stanley london

unkown (got a sun dail)
lensatic compass with straight edge
2 mini button compass
lensatic compass scout version

i nomaly take 2 to double check to make sure one has los tit magnetic pull thingy XD

baseplates shouldn't cost that much. They vary a lot in functionality. Silva is the best make, don't get a really big on, just about 9cm long.

Yes, they are the dogs when it comes to navigating from a map. You lay them on the map along your bearing, see, and turn the bevel to match up with the direction of north on the map (don't forget to allow for declination, although it isn't much in Oz). Then walk using the compass to keep you in the right direction.

The prismatic type are good for taking bearings from things, but you still need something to transfer that to/from the map. Prismatic type aren't much use in heavy forest, either (I did a lot of orienteering in the jarrah forest in WA).
 
i use 2, my lensatic and a silva hiking compass tbh the silva one more often as its lighter and does everything i need it to and is simple. but now and again i go out and take bearings using the lensatic just for fun lol.

well ima look around for one, but alot of thing cost more over here for some reason -_- but ima look for one since pretty much every one uses them
