Leatherwork press stud question

I think you'd be better of using proper tools for setting the snap and also a shaped base block to avoid flattening the rounded front of the snap. Might be hard to make the shpaed end that rolls the inner part.

I used to by small packs of about ten snaps from a local haberdashery and small tools where always included, can't remember the makers name though.
They where brass snaps but chrome plated so I would wire wool the front down to the brass, good if you are only needing a few .

Now I buy brass based snaps from LePrevo and invested in a set of setting tools as well, makes the job easier and neater.

Pete.

it is a lot easier to use the correct tools. That said, when I bought a bunch of snap fasteners a while back I discovered that the tool I had was for the fasteners two sizes larger and wouldn't fit!

So i made a flareing tool from a 4" nail (with a small file) and used a piece of hardwood for the backing.
