Hi All,

Having just returned from a weeks Bass fishing in North Wales and had to endure yet another week with the Welsh "summer" trying to get ourselves & our gear under cover and try and get the chores done when the coastal wind and rain closes in, and then stays!

I have conceeded that I will benefit from a larger tent with a big living area that I can stand up in and if needs be do all the camp chores in. My usual tent for a longer stay is a 3 man Vango Equinox.

Do any of you use such a thing that cuts it?

There is only the two of us, it does not need to be light/small when packed and it does need to be reliable and definately stable!

Open to ideas and even the possibility of a secondhand one and we have previously considered a teepee type but know nothing really of them.

Thanks in advance

Marc

Only 2 of you? How large do you want to go?

These would give you storage and living space, plus add the optional awning and you have a dry cooking area and somewhere to stow muddy/wet gear.

If you have the cash 1 person can put this up in about 15mins

It is more for the living space for size and we usually travel in a mid sized van, so the "sleeping area" would only need to sleep the two of us and perhaps keep the clothing in too.

Looked at those airbeams too, anyone have any real experience?

Thanks for your imput!

We always like to have a spare bedroom to use as a wardrobe and change area - keeps the tent less cluttered. All the reviews and demos I've seen of the airbeam stuff have been seriously impressive - if only I had the cash to splash - just about the quickest pitch I've ever seen on a large tent (including trailer tent and caravan awnings)

I was going to suggest the Coleman Hooligan 4 (which I have) as bing capable of standing up to a Welsh summer, but it is not available in the UK as far as I can see. SO I suggest instead that you include the Coleman Coastline series in your deliberations. If it is a well made as my Hooligan you won't be disappointed. Good detailed review on Amazon.co.uk

I see you've already had recommendations for Coleman tents. I had one but I can't be sure which of the modern ones are the equivalent. It looked a lot like this one...

http://www.coleman.eu/UK/c-436-waterfall-deluxe.aspx

Plenty of room for a couple of bikes and the kitchen sink in the outer (and you can stand up!) and room for an average family in the 'bedroom'.

The coleman UK tent website looks pretty rubbish but the tent I had was tough and brilliant, and only about £120. ... Quite remarkable! (that was David Coleman wasn't it?)

Regarding the Airbeam tents have a look on you tube there are a few bad reviews of them. One leaking badly the first time it was put up. Dont get me wrong I like the idea but I would wait for the 2nd generation of them so they have ironed out any defects.

Also any of the other vango tents are great.

When my missus was up for camping and not glued to a PC and Second Life, I had to get a big and stable tent so that we could have space, comfort and security in the campsite we used on a clifftop here overlooking the channel.
In the end after trying a few we settled on one of the Khyam jobs and it held up in storms and wind that defeated most other tents.

What about a big tarp for living under and doing camp chores then just use your tent for sleeping in

Actually tried that this time but with the campsite on the clifftop and high winds, no trees and horizontal rain it was given up for the perverbial game of soldiers!

Hi mate, I've a Robens Double Dreamer that's very good. A 2 bedroom job but you can just put the one up. The front opens up with an awning - loads of room. 5000HH too so can cope with most weather. Have a look at one, they're not that expensive. Cheers
