Lamp oil instead of Parrafin?

Can I use the yellowy/green 'Lamp Oil' in my hurricane lamp instead of parrafin? I KNOW it sounds like a no-brainer,but I have never used the stuff before and being as my shed/cabin is ready and the lamps are coming out of storage I thought I would ask!

I don't have any inside knowledge but I think lamp oil is a refined type of paraffin that is less sooty for indoor use.

I have used it in storm lanterns with no ill effects in the past but it tends to be more expensive.

I'm pretty sure that for hurricane lamps.
you could use lamp oil without any problems.

One way to find out...... trial some otdoors to see if there is any increase in smoke and tell us what you think.

I think you can use Citronella (yellow) oil in oil lamps that are indoor and outdoor use. We have several indoor lamps, non-pressure types that we use clear lamp oil in, and the paraffin pressure lamps can be indoors or out.

We have been told to use paraffin in the indoor lamps if needed. It's a lot cheaper than the lamp oil.

Not sure about hurricane lamps....but tried it in normal lanterns an' it don't wick very well...(Flame fizzled out after about ten mins)......cut it wi' normal parafin an' it was fine.

No problem in a wick hurricane lantern NO in pressure lanterns, the crap in the oil clogs them up.
