A few months ago I noticed my brother eying up one of my bushcraft knives, so after a think about it I told him it was his if he could make me a kuksa style cup with it. He very quickly agreed to my terms.
So off he went to research what a kuksa was and how to make it as best as possible. After finding out what he needed he went hunting for a good size bit of birch burl, which he found in a local private wood. He contacted the land owner and discussed removing it for himself. He was eventually given permission to harvest it.
So work now begun (photo of his raw burl below). he followed a process that he found on the internet which involved boiling the burl in a brine solution. (photo below). and then sent me the photos of this begining.
I have now been given the finished cup and I have to admit I am more than a bit impressed with his fist ever Kuksa. So I thought I would share this story
