knife Sheath design

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this so be kind. I have just finished my first knife, a Fallkniven FI (would post a pic but havent got a clue how to!!!) and i would like to make a sheath for it. Any advice on design, materials even a plan would be great.

Hi Mate here is an article by rapidboy it describes how to make a sheath pretty well (we all have minor variations, but basically we all make them along these lines).

You will need between 3 and 3.5mm vegetable tanned leather (probably a foot sqaure would be more than enough), two saddlery needles, heavy duty thread (linen thread around 15/04 is pretty good or tiger thread available from Brisa).

the part that has to be right is cutting out the leather as you only got one go or you've wasted it. To prevent this I normally make many paper and card templates, adjusting and tweaking to get it just right. Be patient and it works.

Ive just ordered my tools from brisa, you wouldnt happen to know a good leather supplier, there is limited (none!) choice up here in the highlands.
