Hi folks

I am starting my first knife and before i have even really started i have hit a problem. I have tried to cut the template using a diamond cutter for a dremel (4 mm O1 steel) but it does not seem to make much of a mark. I am going to try to drill round the template, but what sort of drill bits willbe best and can i use just a normal drillto do this.

Any help would be greatfully accepted

Normal or Cobalt bits will be fine. Some just use a hacksaw, others an angle grinder .. give them a try :)

the first knives i made form O1 were done with a hacksaw and files :) O1 really isn't that tough. You could chain drill it out if you have a drill press. On the rare occasional I cut knives out of bar stock these days I use an angle grinder ;)

I think the idea of buying a blade blank for a first attempt is a good one, so are knifemaking courses ;) ;)
