Toddy if you are going to try a disk of sharpened steel i suggest you bolt it thro the Center hole to a batton
Im stupid enough to do it free hand But a polishing machine is one of the most dangerous things you can have in a workshop gets all interesting when it grabs the razor sharp bit of steel out of your hand at 3000 RPM and randomly flings it about

I have a similar thing for my pillar drill. Its a little slower so it builds up less heat and so far, is not inclined to grab the workpiece.

they really are dangerouse things mine has caught me out a few times mary, but i'm going to give it a go

if you have a blunt one your welcome to post it down and risk my fingers instead

i have sharpened out Pizza wheel on the linisher if you get the angle right it spins and grinds at the same time like a Catherine wheel

No worries mate. Which method did you use?

Little stroke across the top followed by the bottom and repeat twice., et voila! Raise it slightly off the existing bevel just as I normally do.

I was referring to the honesteel or the strop

But yeah, thats what i do, a couple of firm strokes folowed by twice as many light ones
