As anyone who has used the Kelly Kettle will attest, they are very effective. One could almost say too effective. There is still a tonne of fuel left when you lift the kettle off boiling away like Vesuvius.
This led me to think that with more fuelling it could boil a heck of a lot more water than my ones 1.5 litre capacity.
Do any of you know of one being modified to heat an entire water tank? In its simplest form the cork would be modded to fit in tightly with a large diameter pipe run through it attached to a much larger header tank above. You would fill the tank and the water would trickle down to fill the kettle.
As the water in the kettle heats it would naturally rise up to the header tank, gradually heating the whole volume. If you wanted to get more efficient you could attach "hot" and "cold" pipes to create a circulating system. You'd need to mount the cold pipe near the bottom of the kettle resulting in a more drastic mod.
The Kelly is so efficient I feel sure that it could drive a system that heated 20 gallons of water to boiling easily. It would make a great basecamp system for showers.
Has anyone ever done this? Good idea you think?
Or am I overestimating the capabilities of the jacketed water sleeve design?
