So, instead of posting kuksa pictures here's a medium basket I made on a course at the weekend.

Managed a bit arty farty Harry Lauders walking stick in it as well.

That's rather nice :D, and I like your design feature too :D

Who was the tutor ? I was on a felt boot making course this weekend.

Felt boots sounds great Mary. I have an incling for moccasins or some sort of slippers with wool/leather.

Jane Wilkinson from Special Branch baskets was the tutor. It was a great weekend. Thanks very much.

My grandmother had several baskets like that, various sizes. We picked or dug up garden veggies in those.
Nice job, moniekieman, you snapped me back 60 years. You built a time machine.

Lovely basket, like the varied materials/colours. I keep promising myself a basketry course, would love to make stuff to that standard.

Sent via smoke-signal from a woodland in Scotland.

Great basket, I will NOT show what I've acomplished in baskety :D it's such a nice craft to master as there is so much material to choose from just around the corner..

Jane Wilkinson's lovely :) and she is such an inspirational teacher :D

A busy, active, lady too

Liz Gaffney has a felt making studio at Dalmally Station (on the West Highland line), and she is another superb teacher :D

My living room floor is covered in wool just now :o and my boots are drying out on the radiator :)
The tutor this time was Moira Buchanan from FeltinArt in Glasgow.

Very nice mate. I have a willow basket making kit that my wife has got me. I Need to soak the willow first before I have a go. I just waiting until I know I have a weekend where the kids have things planned so I can get stuck into it!.

It came form here. http://www.basketkits.co.uk/
They have quite a few different sort of kits for sale

Thanks for your comments folks. Toddy, Jane must be a good teacher as that was my first attempt. I don't think I could remember all the different weaves if I tried it on my own again though!!

Hi Leadblaster. I've a head full of ideas and I'm getting round to ticking them off. (But new ones appear aswell!)

I fancied it for a while. There was an Angus Open Studios day where artists open there studios and I went to see Jane Wilkinson at Special Branch Baskets. When I got there I saw that she did coracle courses. I paused for thought and decided to do a basket course first. There are so many steps, quite easy when you have an expert at hand, but easilly forgotten.

I would suggest a course locally. Great fun.
