Google the price for a cheapest new one and a new handle. Then decide if the difference in price is worth the amount of time you will put into bringing it up to the condition you want it in.

Oh sorry. I just noticed that is the old style handle which a lot of people prefer. So you can't buy like for like new.

Looks like a proper working axe to me, who wants a shiny decoration anyway! Good price and as the others have said, quick clean up with wire wool, a sharpen and a bit of oil on the haft, jobs a good un.

What type of oil would you recommend for the haft?

Also, someone said it was the old style handle. Just out of interest, do you know roughly how old this axe is?
ive given it a clean with wirewool and oil for now.. Looks a lot better.. Will sharpen it when i get chance and post a pic
