Forgot about Heavitree gun and sports. There is a new gun shop in town. Sportsman in Apple lane, opposite the Sowton park and ride on the Apple trading estate. Great outdoor clothing in there. Happy hunting.

Always deal with Gary, Andy or Abu. The more you go, the more you buy the better the service and discounts. I used to deal with them when they were at Paignton and I am glad they've moved closer to me.
I've had good and bad service from Gun and Sport, so it's swings and roundabouts, and I still use them both.
Now don't get me started on Ladds!!!!!!!!

Went to Trago Today and they have stopped selling fixed blade knives.

I spoke to the guy on the counter and he said they only had one tiny fixed blade of any quality, the rest were cheap knives for fishing.

All of the rest were folders or lock knives.

Still it was worth going as I picked up a windproof/weatherproof/breathable shell jacket that looks like wax cotton from a few feet away for only £15.

Still hunting for the knife but the coat was an absolute bargain.

I popped into Endicotts and coincidently met Tengu of this very forum in there.
Anyway, as I thought he has the Mora at £7.95 in two versions but thats pretty much it really.

Didnt get time to go to G&S but I will try to ring Laurie later and see what they stock.

Will let you know
GS

Strange that Trago have stopped selling fixed blades though

Thanks GS

I thought it was strange as well, but the guy seemed very sure of himself and there was only the one tiny fixed blade in the display cabinet.

Wildthing , same to report here ,also went to the kit shop up the top of Fore street and on thr other side, as mostly a MOD shop for squaddies the range of knifes is as you may expect limited and of the 'tactical' variety.

I think if your looking for 'proper' bushy knife afraid to say i think its going to have to be Custom or T'internet my friend.

Although I have no affiliationsor experience ,but was planning to get a knife kit from SWC KNIVES .

Just to hi jack the thread for a moment :D There used to be a pub in Torquay called The Hole in the Wall. Is it still there?
Of course I'm going back to 1965 now
Reason I ask is I was stationed in Newton Abbot and thats where we went to lose the squaddy image.

Will do mate. Maybe we should arrange one of those big meet ups like that other lot did and closed the train station for three hours. Not that I'm saying we should do that, just maybe arrange to have a mass meet up and chin wag somewhere and see how quick the police turn up to see what we're up to.

Trail2, Jon

The Hole in The Wall is still there mate and going strong as Torquay's oldest pub. My friend has just moved into a house just round the corner, so a few beers in there will be in order soon.

Regards to all

I can't say that I've seen many good places to buy knives in Exeter, or rather many places to buy good knives. Mind you, I haven't been in for a while and when I last did I discovered that a bunch of model shops I normally go to had closed down!)

The various army outfitters (kit shop, and the like) have SAKs, leathermans and I think i saw a couple of cold steels in one once?

I spoke to the manager of Ladds guns a while back and they said that they didn't really stock fixed blades. I thought that was odd to be honest?

Moorland Rambler has some folders but nothing exciting, yet... In a few weeks time they will have a few very nice handmade knives for sale though

happy hunting and I'd love to know where does sell knives. :)

Thanks for that Dave

I have just had a look at your site and if I had that amount to spend on a knife I would order one from you.

Nice looking knives mate.

Most of the knife outlets in town have already been mentioned. The SGC tends mainly to have 'Buck' lockers, or at least they did last time I was there. Oh and some rather nice Steyrs, but they aren't too useful for making fuzz-sticks :D I did get a Deerhunter fleece in my size for them out of Litts' bankrupt stock for a good price. Green with brown trim too :D

I don't know if they are still doing it, but M&S used to do a very 'bushy style' small kitchen knife with a good thin, full-tang blade and non-slip grip for about £3.50. A little work making a basic sheath later and voila, bushy for under a tenner from most high streets. Sheaths can be made for instance by soaking a dog chew 'bone' in water overnight. It's made of rawhide so just cut to shape, clamp it to the knife or a former of some description and let it dry.

Hi Matt

Thanks for that, we've got an M&S about a mile down the road. I'll go and have a look around.

May even wear a pair of combat trousers and see if I can attract the store detectives. They always try to look like innocent shoppers, but you can spot them a mile off if you know what to look for.

Regards

Phill

You're not the only one who has been plucked out of the harbour, the police and fire service are always pulling people out of their.

It happens regularly in the summer

Fortunately, I've never fallen in myself, if I did I would want stomach pumping and all sorts of shots as the water in the harbour is well cr@p.
