I think the honest answer is that each of our subjective opinions on what constitutes a Christmas film will be formed by our individual experiences and nostalgic memories, and that if something feels like a Christmas film to you, then it is a Christmas film.
Indeed.

After all, some of us "know" that Sound of Music and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are the true Christmas films.....

Those who know tell me that you should watch Die Hard after watching Elf. That way, having endured Will Ferrell’s most irritating role you can see him shoved off a roof.

Don’t blame me! Saw Die Hard once long ago and I’ve never seen Elf

Because we all know Gremlins never happened. Chunk from the Goonies made it up as a prank.

But... I'm a truffle shuffle black belt... 3rd dan...I even learnt to use it as a weapon... do you have any idea how many eyes i've made water with a nipple tickle? And yet... Gizmo... lives here. Shh, dont wake him... he'll want feeding and probably be annoying and our lass sprays them with water when they annoy her... Don't annoy the Mrs... We'll end up with a new documentary... i mean film...

I'm coming to this a couple of months late (or ten months early, take your pick)

yes, Die Hard is a Christmas film.

also love: Muppet Christmas Carol
and the Doctor Who Christmas special, of which there sadly wasn't one for 2025 (hopefully there will be one this year). I could have dug out the various specials on DVD but we were down on the beach with the cameras instead.
