Hi guys, so I was telling my friends about bushcraft, and one of them mentioned that its a bit like real life minecraft, obviously in the real world so not blocky and weir, and without the creepers and zombies, but hes right in a way. You build a shelter, you (sometimes, depending on where you are) hunt for food, craft tools, and I just wanted to ask you what you guys think?

I've certainly come across the comparison a good few times, aye. Starting with nothing, using the resources you find around you plus the crafting side of things. If only it was all as easy as punching a tree!

I do like minecraft but for the scenery and a bit more you should try DayZ an ARMA2 modification.....

This is true, I suppose you can use an axe but its not quite that easy to build a shelter xD

I'm a massive fan of DayZ, but its more focused on short term survival, theres no shelters or crafting, but yeh its like arma mixed with minecraft, its something Im hoping to change in a survival game Im working on

DayZ fan here too, any game where you have to take a bearing to get to your destination has got to be a winner. Plus a mild zombie apocalypse fixation don't hurt :)

I was pleased to find and recognise the pole star enabling me to head in the right direction..... Have you tried night navigation in dayz?

Its a mod to an existing game called ARMA2, a game thats a few years old now. I bought ARMA2 via Steam, downloaded it, and installed dayzcommander, a program that monitors and runs all the (frequently) evolving mods and maps for the dayz game. Online is pretty good, as you may come across others players in the (pretty huge) maps and cooperate to survive, or get shot in the back for the meagre contents of your pack... And theres no saves, you start again from scratch...,

I have been trying all day and cannot for the life of me get to play Dayz.
I got it all installed after buying the games and it just keeps telling me that the things you need to copy into the addons folder are not allowed.
Ive tried about 6 different ways from different websited and keep getting the same thing.

yep used it and installed all the mods but still nothing!!
If i use Steam or the actual game icon to play i get

"no entry bin\config.bin/Cfgvehicles/citizen1scope"

once i have picked a server all i get is Martin you cannot play/edit this mission it is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted.chernarus

If i use dayzcommander and pick a server i get
"bad version server connection rejected"

Anyone got any ideas on how i can correct this?

On dayzcommander theres an update section, Im at my work PC so cant check, but its on the top right side of the window, if its ?yellow, there are updates to the files that the server you are accessing may need, ie some servers are using an updated map or an older version. I found I needed to check this pretty regularly, to make sure the game I was accessing was "ok". I think there is a filter option on the server page of dayzcommander to exclude wrong or incompatible mods.
Chernaus is a pretty popular map, but theres about a dozen maps on the go, and it may be youre accessing a game using one of these, on the update section I mentioned, theres a list of them to be downloaded.

I hope this helps..
