Curious that there is no mention of the hazards of foraging for fungi if you don't know how to recognise dangerous species. Interesting article as you say.

I have merged your thread with the one started by Bonzo Frog earlier today.
But do we need nannying? Those that actually forage are aware of the possible dangers and will either make a positive ID or ignore. Same for many plant species too.
Quite right, but the BBC has a wide audience, and I was thinking of those who might be encouraged to go out and forage whatever they find without sufficient knowledge of the dangers. In no way do I want to discourage foraging, but beginners should be made aware that there are safety concerns if you are inexperienced. I don't call that nannying, I call it sense.
I think, in general, people are aware that some mushrooms and plants are poisonous. If you're off foraging then you'll have a good idea what you're foraging for. Well, I'd like to think so.
If you think the Beeb should be educating us on this, then I disagree.
