That's 3 sets of 25x5mm tongs done. as well as a set of hammer eye tongs. - Plan is to have 3 forging stations with everyone working from a central gas forge. These tongs will be ideal for making a small viking style knife. Or indeed any bushcraft knife for that matter.

I need to make 3 sets of tongs for holding 8mm round which will be used to make hooks. - Plan is to start everyone off on some hooks.

We'll likely progress to a bottle opener made from a blank to save time and then on to a Viking knife or some other bigger project you fancy. Poker, rake etc etc.

Just thought I'd update you with some progress.

Cheers

Cheers everyone. I reckon we'll need another few sets for forging little hooks as well so I'll get on to those asap.

The tongs pictured above second in from the left decided to mess up my day today. The piece I was forging bounced up and smacked me right in the forehead resulting in a small but rather deep cut. Luckily I was hit with the "cold" end and had my eye protection on. Could easily have been much worse. They're ultimately the wrong tool for the job I was doing so lessons learned.

This is exactly why I've focused on making decent tongs because I don't want that to happen to anyone that comes in to the forge.

Hi Chaps.

My head is healing well. "Tis but a scratch" - but I'm not as pretty as I once was.

I've got two weeks left on this rig then I'll be getting home. Not sure what's happening with work after than but we'll have to wait and see I guess. Due off here on the 24th. I've a Christmas fair on the 25th, then hopefully getting the keys for the new house on the 30th.

We'll see how that all goes but I'd like to pencil in a weekend in early December. Lets say the 9th. Assuming I don't get called away again by that point that is.

Anyone free at that point?

All the best

Blimey this is really short notice chaps as I've been running round like a headless chicken sorting stuff but the workshop is having their "Winter fair" tomorrow - 11am - 3pm.

If anyone fancies popping in I'll be doing a "make your own bottle opener/ hook" in the forge.

The website is woefully out of date but at least lets you know where to find the place.

Right - the weekend is fast approaching and the workshop is in utter chaos. I've a large commission I'm working on right now which is getting in the way of finishing up everything else.
I don't think I'll be finished by the weekend if I'm honest so a full day of it on Saturday is probably a no go. - I reckon we can however get a couple of hours on sunday if anyone is interested? We could forge some hooks/ bottle openers and have a bit of a chit chat for a while.

Who's free?

All the best
Andy
