I want a decent cast iron casserole pot, do I need to buy a Le Crueset pot or are there better/cheaper options?

Denby make them too now, and Morrison's & Sainsbury's both sell their own 'brand'.

I think the Denby ones have better handles than the LeCreuset, and if you're happy with the basic colours, the pots are half price just now in their on line shop. Free postage if you spend over £100 too.

Tesco were doing a voucher scheme for pyrex enameled cast iron casserole dishes. Not sure if its still on.

It was only one size and the offer finished; not a bad dish I got one and several of the glass pyrex dishes that were offer.

I have several Le Creuset pans/pots and have to say they are superb. Ours were a wedding present thirty years ago and they still clean up really well; in fact we bought our daughter the large round casserole dish as a house warming present they are well worth the money and will last a lifetime.
