I've just closed the back door, and that first hint of a scent, the one that makes the urge to be ready, to get the harvest safely in and stored, is in the air tonight :)

I love our changing seasons :D

Its coming - the bees are feeling it, wheat, onions and garlic are in - Brussels are setting, parsnips are a good size, combines are working round the clock...its on the way

That's an amazing coincidence, I've just emailed my 'shrooming partner to tell her the smell is right for the Ceps; They're my favourite forage of the whole year and I await their coming with the anticipation of a young
child! I was deep in the pinewoods where I always have good hauls about 3 or 4 times this past fortnight, but it just hasn't felt right yet; but this evening I was there with the dog and we both knew immediately there'd been a subtle change and then I got the magic smell; it's indefineable, somehow elemental, and I'd never thought about it in terms of the urge to get the harvest in but you are, of course, exactly right. It serves the purpose of firing that instinct that the lean times are on the way and we best be ready..............

I love this time of year more than any other now that I'm getting a little older, the season of mellow fruitfulness seems to match my time of life but I welcome all the seasons as they arrive...........I lived in East Africa for a little while and found it extremely discomfiting to have so little seasonal and diurnal (?) change..........................atb mac

I was out for a wander earlier, quite warm but still you could feel the change, also the Hungarian radio was just saying that grape picking time is upon us which is a good indicator. :)

This summer was so pleasant, that I now fear the end of it. The dog walks in endless drizzle. The lack of leaves and shelter under the trees. The way my cold hands hurt when I draw out my bow. The discomfort of having to wear more clothes. And just 5 days from now, the beginning of the seemingly endless mental torture that is school.
How can you all be so positive:confused:

The mental torture that is school is supposed to teach you, amongst other things, a positive outlook on life!. Don't worry, Niels, the trees and the sun won't be going anywhere for long, they'll always be back.....atb mac

36 cubic metres of logs all cut dried and seasoned, 280 bottles of beer and a hundred bottles of wine laid down, harvest mostly in and above all else

I don't have to go to school

Warm beds a pleasure to snuggle into again :) good company, richly coloured days, forest and hedgerow fruits in abundance, busy, busy, busy :D Different foods, different smells in the air, chill air that feels so fresh pulled into my chest, comfortable coolness to work hard, brisk walks, changing skies, stars and bright moons, pine scented woods, new made jam and fresh bread, savoury soups and the blessed warmth of the evening firesides.

What a beautiful post. If you put it that way I'm looking forward to autumn.

My mother doesn't like that post.:) And although I can't yet agree due to a lack of life experience, I have heard that before and I tend to believe it.

Just the merest hint here with a little night time chill and a smidgen of mist in the morning. Blackberries are abundant and the rowans are resplendent with berries.

Autumn is on its way now. Leaves turning, fruit forming, should be a huge apple crop this year.

Not looking forward to cold, wind, long dark nights, rain, no flowers, no insects, no sun. Snow doesn't really do it for me.
