On the economic front the US had pulled back on use of the higher tier “exquisite” munitions in Iran partly because of cost. F35 development was to be more cost effective alternative to the F22 (even pricey for the US). Unfortunately the B model seems to suffer from “blue screen of death” and decides it is on the ground while in flight. Maybe AI resistance?
Sheer cost might be a break on some hardware development?

On the ethics front who was held responsible when robot cars have crashed?

Take a look at Hanna Fry on AI and look at the pathetic defences put forward by Uber and Tesla - but they have big money and powerful lawyers.

recommending putting grease on brake pads to stop them squealing
That's actually a common fix. The pads are under such immense pressure that braking isn't affected. There are high temp greases specifically for this.

Bit of light oil sprayed onto squeaky belts also works well.

Depends which side of the pads the AI recommends you grease, doesn’t it? A proportion of those needy enough to use AI for vehicle maintenance are likely to blindly follow whatever it suggests.

Oil on belts is never a good idea. It might reduce an annoying squeak, but the belt won’t last long afterward. See many newer Ford vehicles with oil wetted belts for examples. Engine designs by accountants rather than engineers.

Just for clarity, in case anyone is confused, grease is applied between the calliper piston and the back of the pad (i.e. the metal plate) NOT the friction surface that touched the brake disk. You can buy specific brake grease to do this and it is very effective.
Exactly my point. Never anywhere near the disk itself in any circumstances.
