I’m watching the southern USA from California to Georgia experience a killer heatwave. The northern part is coughing from Canadian Wildfire smoke.
CLIMATE CHANGE is accelerating faster than the best predictions a few years ago.
refugee crisis, wars, mass starvation , disappearing species and entire ecosystems , the spread of diseases, King Charles and Harry, Elon Musk and peers trying to run the word, gun violence in my country, trump won’t go away, but good people do...,
Uh, why are we worried about AI
Again?

For everyone.
This thread wasn't questioning if A.I in all spheres is a concern.

It was specific if the the point where A.I and modern battlefield elements are combined and if then something with total autonomy of decision making is given the ability to take human lives.

Does anybody read Philip K Dick?
There is a short story of his that kind of fits in here. It is called "The Gun" and it is an entertaining read, unless you don't like Sci-fi.

Using the human, technical and financial resources entailed on conflict avoidance would be in the better interests of the world as a whole.
No disagreement here although I can't ignore a lot of technologies that in the end we have benefited from are derived from advances due to a perceived military need.

Sorry, read it as a new thread not 10 pages in. I replied to an early post. Please ignore!

Ukrainians have apparently done a ground attack with an all RC small vehicles force. Now that is a very short step from first having limited pic analyzing capability and then independent shooting. I think the equipment actually exists but not utilized yet.

Welcome skynet.

Meanwhile the UK MOD tests their budget friendly cots version of “skynet”

“Hairnet” A spokesperson said that this represents value for the tax payer as well as showcasing date of the art UK technology development, by ‘eck as like!

It may start off like that but sadly there is always a need for face to face human fighting, always has been and always will be necessary.

I'll be honest - I think it always 'should' do. - to be , ethically and humanely invested.
I can imagine a conflict with one side being superior remote ai vs less developed nations or people and think it would desensitise one side more than allows to be justified.

Not sure if i've worded that correctly but I guess my gist that its to remain humane in acts of violence one must have a representation of humanity on that battefield.

I also agree but politians don’t see it that way, hence the lack of investment in the infantry. There were 55 infantry battalions when I was in. The army was 160,000
