Homemade Crossbows

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Heres one i made earlier. :) No plans, i just followed my heart. Did'nt cost anything and all the wood used is taken from the woods near my house. Just go for it!

The crossbow fires a good distance! Much more than i imagined it would before i made it!

I did take some ideas from this page and its well worth a read:

When you go to the scrapy look for older cars such as MK 1-2 or 3 escorts they had much lighter leaf springs. I used to make knives out of them whenever one came my way. Not that hard to anneal so you can work it but I would suggest you gat it heat treated professionally if you have never done any yourself .

i thought most of the mk 1-2 escorts were collecters and had all been snapped up unless its a really rural scrappy.mk3s were the first of the coil sprung wernt they?.

Lovely piece of work there jon r. I do like the "variety" of topics we are seeing lately - from deer hunting to crossbows. Excellent stuff - keep it coming!

the od one can still be found in the scrapy. but that was just an example
the company i work for (quite a well known kit car manufacturer ) are starting to have a hard time finding downer cars for one of there kits. The car is the MG midget. Most people thought they were getting hard to find 25 years ago!!

I've got a couple of horn bow bellies that are earmarked for a composite prod.

It's just finding the time. My composite magyar bow is still two bits of horn and some oddments of wood after about a year.
