I have the Royal Horticultural Society's Encyclopedia of Herbs. It's a cracking tome but defienitely not a pocket edition lol. I try to grow loads of herbs in my large garden. I too have now bookmarked the suggested site and it look a good un. I often find such books in the charity shops, and if you have not read them, The Clan of the Cave bear by Jean M Auel is a great series. A great adventure and a great bit of writing skillfully written and lots of medicinal herb gems to be gleaned.

Be a little bit wary of Jean M Auel's herbalism; the lady is a novelist and writes fiction for a living.
There are no 'birth control' herbs beyond the abortifacients.
