Hello everyone,

I was looking for a source of information about weaving or making my own yute soles, to make "alpargatas"

Pioneers in the U.S. used to braid rugs out of strips of cloth. The rugs looked a lot like the soles of the shoes as far as the pattern goes. You might try googling braided rugs.

Good luck.

The soles in that photograph are not woven. They are made by braiding jute twine, and then the braids are stitched in the manner of coil basket work. This i know because i have made such as these. It is very simple and very satisfying work. But it can give you a very itchy nose.
