Hoping to get some advice, I have an Australian style rawhide hat. It had some issues with water proofing and so I went ahead and gave it the same sort of beewax treatment as per my boots (though only waxed the outside of the hat). That side of things is now all good and well, but I was out on a walk over the weekend in hot weather and sweating a lot. Left the hat on a hook to dry out over night and can see now stains from salt in my sweat. There are two stains on the forehead area.
Will these cause any damage to the leather? If so what would be the best way of resolving this problem?
