Was out walking today and came across this/these animal print. I know nothing about animal prints. What is it?

Thank you.

Minator.

Actually, at first glance at photo 2 I would have said deer mixed in with other prints. If it was a dog and it produced such deep prints I would have expected to see claw indentations and a rear pad. I've not see bore prints but a google suggests you would see two smaller indentations behind the front two.

Looks like a horse going downwards as the photo is shown with another print on top going the other way.
I thought horse aswell. it appears to be a well trodden route with several potential prints including a boot print. I am going to stick with the one that first jumped out at me first and say Deer. I cant expand on what type. xxx

Measurements are key to identifying prints and also a good set of tracks will show the animals stride.
It’s too short/broad for larger UK deer from what I can see.

So, the photos were taken during my Cwm Crew walk, the first photo was taken right down in the valley, close to the edge of the stream, and the second and third photos were taken high up on the moorland where there are indeed wild horses.

I agree that scale and pace would help.

That is a deep print. At that depth I might have expected to see an impression of a deer’s “dew claws”..

Why do we seem to be excluding sheep? They come in many different shapes even within a single flock.

Sheep are a possibility, there are a lot of sheep around, I just thought they looked different to sheep, although I actually know little to nothing about animal tracks.

Sheep is very likely. The track is too short and broad for a deer. Also the width and depth could be due to the sheep ‘registering’ with the rear going over the front.

Where was it? I’m a frequent visitor to south wales and have never seen deer tracks on the hills.
These tracks were both in the Cwm Crew and on Craig Y Byllfa.

They probably are not in fact deer prints, like I said, I have zero knowledge on animal tracks.
