Hammocking... without a tree???

Wayland did it at a meet a few years ago.
well pegged down a frames . seemed to work ok.

Why am I not surprised that Wayland pulled it off!

It was the first North West meet I organised and there was a definite shortage of trees but no shortage of rain as I recall.

I used an A frame made of 3"x 2" at each end and anchored them with three steel pegs at one end and a ridge-line running over the top to a tree root at the other.

It was quite secure even when the ground was soaked.

I would suggest you go over to hammockforums and do a quick search, it's a topic that comes up quite often and has seen some pretty cool innovations by members over there as well as a few FAQ/tutorials. A bit of foreplanning and you'll be able to set up just fine.
