There is a small shark species around northern European coast, called Dogfish.
Delicious. Used to buy them for pint money in Hastings. They usually threw in a couple of Gurnards too.

I think I must have Chinese DNA. If it moves I like it!

When I harvested rabbit, I only took the rear third. Quick to skin too.
Not much meat on the front third. Big ones I also took the back muscle.
Secateurs work well.

So much nice, tasty, underappreciated meat out there!
Dogfish in Alaska refers to a small salmon species. So named because it was the sole source of food for working sled dogs.

Local names in English are bound to make things confusing.
Dog salmon = Chum salmon = Keta (Oncorhynchus keta) on the west coast are second only to Chinook in size.
The term "dog fish" still persists to describe the small schooling shark (Squalus acanthias).
We used many of them in Comparative Anatomy classes. In the office, they are called "bottom-feeders."
I'd rather try squirrel than eat either one of those fish.

I did the clay thing with a rabbit once. It was okay, tasted alright and the meat was very tender, but the skin/fur most certainly did not come away with the clay, had to peel it off after the clay had broken away. Clay just cracked off the fur.

It's the way my Grandfather did it. Are you going to the winter moot? I hope to take some squirrel there and demo if anyone is interested.
The method I use works as long as the squirrel is fresh killed - I've not tried it days after (so, may have a problem at the Moot :) ).

We had an article on here years ago showing how to make a hanger for putting their legs in to skin them...Umm, wonder if I can find it...

I think Hugh f w did a recipe using squirrel and called it "up a tree pie" I don't know if he sold it in his restaurant but I wouldn't put it past him
That must be 10 yrs ago. Wonder if it will take off in restaurants nowadays. It never realy caught on then
Think I still have the recipe somewhere.
I think it may have been him who said about the 'Tree Chickens'.
