Mrs. Sandbender's relatives over in transylvania have sent us a bottle of 'diólikőr' which I know from my wanderings in Italy as 'Nocino'.
It is rather good, a very curious taste and very strong, the contents of this bottle are marked as being around 89 proof, I'm not sure how someone can work out the alcohol content of their concoctions however whenever we get a bottle of cherry liqueur or home made brandy it always has the 'proof' scribbled on the side.
Anyway, lots of 'green walnuts' around here earlier in the year, so I had a look through the internets and found this site, which features several recipes for Nocino along with chutneys and pickling options.
Something to keep me busy next year.
