I don't know if anyone else has had trouble with Garmin, but I brought a Garmin Quest about 2 years ago. This unit fits in the car on my motor bike and can also be hand held with a 20 hour battery.
It worked great until about 3 months ago when it stopped locating sattelites, so I rang Garmin and they told me to try various things, but nothing worked and eventually after many e-mails and phone calls I had to send it back.
The last phone call I made I spoke to someone in customer services, and they said it would have to come back but would be fixed for free, so I parcelled it up and paid for insurance and registered post and lo and behold they wrote back and said it would now cost about £100-00 or more.
I rang them back and got no help what so ever from their customer services so it seems if you are not a celeb or on tv they don't want to know you, so while their products are generly good I hope you never need any help with them.
Any one else had these problems.

Stickbow, that's an unfortunate one mate. I had a problem with a Garmin GPS 12 XL a good few years ago now, but I got in touch with them and they were spot on. They used to be based around Southampton, so when traveling across the country I dropped it into them, they replaced the goods there and then on the spot.

I know of other people that have had problems with the same model (it was due to a duff batch of internal lithium batteries they had) and they resolved the issues without quibble in all cases.

I would say talk to CAB as well, even though the experiences that I have had with Garmin have been positive.

That's unfortunate. My eTrek is playing up and I am considering getting a replacement.

When I had a Magellan which died, after the warranty expired, they offered an upgrade at a much reduced price and which is still working. Mind you this was in Oz.

They should work to keep customers loyal to the brand so if you pester them enough but nicely you may get results
