Question for you gps techies out there.

I've got a Garmin handheld gps and could do with an extra antenna for when I'm inside on the pc downloading stuff. I have seen plenty of aftermarket antennas out there but some of them seem to mention the gain (e.g. 25dB). Was just wondering whether I should be looking for the highest or lowest gains?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't get an aftermarket antenna rather than a Garmin specific one?

Thanks

Toby

Higher gain will mean a better signal along with a higher price tag, if the gps easily gets a signal when placed on the windowsill then you don't need a high gain ariel if it struggles then go for higher gain
