this are some photographs of a jacket I bought with a test on waterproofness which failed. The jacket is in great condition gore tex seem to be fine nor rips or holes, I went out to test it, it was suposed to be waterproof but after 2 houers in heavy rain it leaked, to prove it I have made quick home made test to show how it looks like... (I cann't send the jacket to goretex) I am planning to waterproof it with nikwax.. Did any of you get similar leaks with gore tex and did you waterproof yours ? what can I do :( ? thx

1st generation goretex was a bad joke!
I had one of the 1st British made goretex jacket (Berhaus Mistral in 2 tone blue) - it leaked...got it replaced...replacement leaked...got it replaced...sold replacement...which also leaked...person who bought it got it replaced....
I am not a great fan of any goretex - although I use later variants.... there aint no cure for leaky goretex that I know of.

i'm intrigued with this one, My father in law has this jacket and matching trousers and swears by them however they are now full of holes from brambles. why i'm intrigued is that my British army Goretex, the 94 patt i think with big cargo buttoned pockets is amazing and does not leak, but, my bivi bag does. it leaks exactly the same way your jacket seems to by wetting through. not sure if i've hijacked the thread here, but is it a goretex issue or a manufacturing issue? my bag isn't the official goretex, it's the white label MOD own brand but shouldn't they perform the same? i'd like to know how you get on with treating the jacket if you go that route.
cheers
Rob

I bought this nikwax TX spray I have to say I don't see a dramatic change I have sprayed it on the whole jacket and there was enought for another jacket,,, it takes while to dry,,, I think it might work on some jackets but it didn't work on mine :/ the only thing that does work is fabisil but it shouldn't be used on goretex

i think you can get that stuff in a wash-in format, and also a tech wash to key the fabric before you use the revitaliser stuff. then tumble dry it i think to raise the hairs in the fabric that allow it to shed water. just gonna give it a go on my bivi.

my goretex bivi bag was made by north face for the military its never leaked on me but ive had it from new
a lot of stuff on the market is there for a reason usaly because its obselete
ive also got trousers which also was from new they also dont leak but ive had seconds before which was grade 1 or super grade as new which has leaked these garments are handed back for a reason
