My last watch is nearly dead.

So what can you suggest as a good replacement watch?

I don't do exspensive watch as i am sure as eggs is eggs to eith lose or break it.

So under £50.00 watch with whatever functions i can get would be great.

Do any watchs in this range have a LED Micro light buit in ? That would be useful.

I swear by Nite watches - a bit out of the £50 range but Heinnie have the GX80 on offer for £125 this week which is an amazing price. Really tough, glows like a torch, very happy with mine.

I've been using a cheap Timex Expedition watch for a while. Does everything I need it too and doesn't matter if it gets duffed up a bit when I'm out and about.

Got mine from Argos Linky

Vostok. Totally bomb proof and don't require batteries.

I can second that, you can pay as much or as little as you want and it's great to have the option of mechanical watches thesedays. No such thing as a dead battery when you wind them! I bought one a couple years back and will be getting another just because I like them so much.

bought a 50s all mechanic Swiss made watch on the bay for next to nothing, standardised glass, totally reliable (if you remember to wind it every other day). With a new wristband it's stylish, rugged and waterproof. The only feature or function is a separate seconds hand. I can even wear it to a suit! :D

I got a Citizen watch from Argos a few months back for bushy stuff as I didn't want to break the nice one my wife got me when we got engaged !!

It's a fairly plain analogue watch with date, but I liked it as it's got a nice OG webbing strap, and is solar powered so addresses any concerns I've got about the battery running out. Also as its analogue, I can use it for navigation purposes (as long as its not too cloudy).

It cost just under £50 as it was reduced from £100 (but I think that may be a 'permanent offer'.

Hope this is of interest.

I'll put another vote for Times Expedetion watches. Mines getting on a bit at 5+ years and I may change it.... for another Expedition watch.

I've seen those on the site. Are they genuine military ones, or made just for the export market?

Jim

I'm not positive but I think someone bought the factory and make them as they were originally with all the original parts. Basically the same thing but made right now as opposed to the cold war era ones...probably with the export market in mind! I could well be wrong about that though! I personally wouldn't be put off by that, I've got an Orion as well for when I wear a suit and I'd happily buy another. Best £30 watch I've bought! I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to watches, I've got at least 15 all ranging in price from £30 to expensive and I really like the mechanical Russian ones! That's just my opinion though.

I used to do a bit of watch repairing many years ago. The Russian watches then were quite well made - IIRC they had a breguet overcoil. If I remeber the shockproof balance cock jewels were held in with a loose piece that bayonetted in and was liable to ping out and get lost when trying to replace it. The Swiss incabloc ones were captive and much easier.

I just wondered. It seemed unlikely that they issued different watches to every part of their armed services.

I think I got my love for timepieces as a result of my grandad, he was well into building and repairing all types throughout his life. I've got no end of pocket watches from him, probably about 30 in total. They're all old, if you know anything about them I'd love to find out more information! Drop me a pm if you can be bothered, if not no worries!

Cheers, Chad

Personally.....expensive watches never seem to last long with me..........for years now I've been using the bottom of the range timex or citizen, I find I can unintentionaly abuse them and they refuse to give in! I don't even replace the battery when it dies just get another watch. my current one is 2 yrs old and I managd to crack the glass within a month of getting it...............still works fine!

Smoggy.

Timex are okayish but I broke two Expedition watches before the batteries ran out. I wasn't especially rough with them and I don't have the money to put my kit through unnecessary endurance tests so they just broke through regular (outdoor type) usage.

One annoying thing one of my Expetion watches would do was the winders would catch on something and the time would change. When the hands fell off the analogue display I knew it was time to get a new watch.

I have broken three Timex expidition watches.
I now have a Casio Waveceptor WVQ142DA 1AV.
It's tough, accurate, waterproof and has a Night light. All you really need for outdoor life.
Its now a couple of years old and still looks new despite my best attemps to kill it.(My clumsiness)
Good everyday wear.
