I've always been told that chickens don't like the rain. We have 5 and they'll all quite happily peck and scratch or even just stand about when it's tipping it down, again with free access to indoor areas, - I just thought mine were odd, at least someone else has an odd chicken as well
Our Buff Orps which are heavily feathered do come out of the rain. The hybrids don't. Indeed they have been known to roost on top of the coop in a thunderstorm.
