Having been suffering with a cold, I decided to stop moping about and go out and get something done. So I headed off in the car, and after a few stops I ended up at Garn Lakes Local Nature Reserve, at Blaenavon.

The two lakes have been created on old industrial workings, and are now an important lapwing breeding site, as well as being a great place to walk a dog or small children. Mostly it was geese and ducks today, plus a solitary gull and a pair of coot.

Adjacent to the lakes is the Blaenavon Mountain Railway, which was chugging busily up and down making the most of the Bank Holiday.

The railway only runs half a mile, from the station to the Whistle Inn. Last summer I met a chap who lives in Abertillery, the other side of the ridge. He said that every Sunday he walks over the ridge to the Whistle, has two pints, and walks home again. I wonder if he managed it today?

I took a few artsy shots, by which time I had walked right oround the two lakes, so I called it a day, and a very enjoyable stroll it was too.

Cracking pics, you seem to have it a tad more chilly were you are, some really nice water shots

Thanks mate. Blaenavon is at altitude though. Where I am there is no snow at all, just a few miles away. On the other hand, there has been considerable thawing recently. I wouldn't have tried going up there last week.

Canon EOS 1100D plus extra tele-macro lens. Cheapest DSLR I could get but with lens still the wrong side of £500. I went way over budget.

How far are you from being mobile again now? Must come and annoy you some time.
