my partner asked if i could make her a small knife to use in the garden, cutting open grow bags, string and other garden things? looking around the shed for something to make it from as i have no steel/files left to work with found an old rusty pair of her garden clippers. now i have no idea if it will heat treat successfully? but went ahead and cut off and ground one of the blades...
here it is so far...

update on the little garden knife, heat treat went well. tempering done resting the back against a red hot heated pick axe watching the colours travel up the blade to the edge till the cutting edge turns a dark straw.
needs polishing and a handle...

Britannia!
Your heating treating seems very instinctual! I mean that positively though, your knack of learning fast give me the impression your ht will be spot on!

Please give us a wip on your polishing!

That looks very good. As Cameron says, looks like a shroom knife. I'll have to learn how to do the heat treating thing and make one myself on day
