Hi I have an urge to get a new compass and have always fancied a Francis Barker M-88 or M-73. These are normaly quite expensive new but I have found an army surplus place selling new M88's for £60. My question is are they fake or chinese made, the retailer has 100% feedback and over 35000 feedback score so cant be that bad. is this a case ot too good to be true.

Cheers

Chris

Sure sounds it.

Penrith Survival sells M-73s for £312, M-88s are probably cheaper (being made of aluminium rather than brass) but not that much cheaper.

I got an M88 about a year ago off of Ebay for £40...good nick and a great prismatic compass. The M73 is a beautiful piece of equipment but damned heavy, the M88 is a good weight. But remember most military ones are in mils and not degrees so you need a military protractor to use effectively.
