Forest Fires now

We've lived in the bush in central BC for 21 years, have been through forest fire season's before but not like this one... We've been under an evacuation order for almost 2 months. Our place is a cabin with a few solar panels and of course a shop that runs on solar power. We didn't leave, exercised our right to protect our land. We have been lucky and smart. If we leave armed soldiers and police won't let us back in. A Different kind of survival in the wilderness.
The fire storm the media has whipped up was fed to them. It's disgraceful. Great thing about a satellite connection. Anyone with a panel and a dish in the bush can communicate. The big difference this time is the fire center and CRD have been withholding information and have been putting a big spin on the fires. Fires in old cut blocks crawl they don't rage. A lot of the Cariboo has been cut in the last 50 years.
It's a sign towards the future. We can deal with forest fires. The RCMP, Military, CRD and levels of governments are a different story. We do appreciate the different authorities and governments for sure but this kind of situation will have to be talked about and checked. It has turned into a military exercise and an opportunity to burn. It is a phenomenon. Democratic armed forces need conflict to flourish. The CRD (Cariboo Regional District) needs to burn off land. Problem is it's at our (the people's) expense. I wish they could just say the truth, that logging practices have sucked for a long time and the pine beetle have left lots of fuel in a bush and with the pressures of climate change. They could get us all motivated instead of being arrogant and taking our rights away.

Right now we're getting caught up. The order and blockades came into effect here without notice so a lot got put on hold.

Hey man I am sorry to here this, for you and the region. I shudder to think of the devastation that has been caused in the Boreal zone in the past and present. And the authorities are taking this disaster as an opportunity to further militarise the region! The earth shall weep right!?!

Thats a really interesting view on the fires. Here in the UK, there has been very little coverage (and even then you need to search for it). But we have had more coverage on the fires in mainland Europe. Some friends of ours, who have a farm in Portugal have just lost 80% of their land to the fires there.
Having spent a bit of time in BC, you have vast tracts of land out there and very few roads and a sparse population. I guess trying to keep track of people and the fires is a huge drain on resources and so it's easier for the authorities to just put out blanket orders, even if an area is not directly under threat.

Doesn't surprise me at all about you guys haven't been hearing anything about it.
Most of the land burned here is logging wasteland. It's good for the forest. Nobody has been hurt and a small number of homes have been lost. That is a disaster for sure.
A lot of people have been put out though. For about a week 48,000 people were evacuated. We have been here going on 2 months. Eating lots of tomatoes and cucumbers.

Where I grew up, a lot of the plants were fire-adapted. Some would not even germinate unless the seeds went through a fire. Is the boreal forest at all like that?

Many pine species are like that across several climate zones.
