I really like the looks of the Captain Stag table Ive seen a lot on Japanese camping videos Ive seen on you tube, but never going to pay the £150 for it so thought Id use it as inspiration to make one.

So I borrowed a friends table saw to start making one.

Using 3.6mm and 10mm thick hard wood ply board to make it.

All the wood cut, just sanding and 28 holes need drilling for the screws.

Almost finished it, all it need is a coat of oil.

Used some cardboard to work out holes to drill and where I needed to remove off the legs to stop any binding.

Fitted the frame together and inserted the carriage bolts I'm using as hinges.

Tightened them down so its on the stiff side so the legs don't drop open moving it about.

Glued and screwed on the top slats.

So, yes, OK. Very nice already!

And how do you attach now the hip belt, the shoulder straps, main bag and side pouches?

Very handy. But why is the top made of slats rather than a single piece?

Spills and rain possibly, all outdoor furniture is slatted.

I’d like a roll top design where the slats are fixed to a couple of strips of webbing and can be rolled for carry. I have the folding aluminium slatted versions that are similar, but not as nice.
