What a great start to 2025. I had all the gear but sometimes you need the crazy friend with no off switch to make you grab an opportunity.

The weather was predicted cold and said friend what just what I needed to get me out of the New Year slumber.... his wife didn't even realise she'd volunteered for a 2 canoe, 2 couple, one night hot tent trip!

First bacon roll of the year at the Real Food Cafe, Tyndrum.

Glencoe looking stunning on the way up

Snowy paddle in the super crisp air and super still water... Can you see something odd about the above photo?

Off to a quiet spot between Fort Bill and Fort Augustus with the Onetigris Rock Fortress and the Woodswalker titanium tent stove.

The infra red was eerily picked up by the camera processor.

Away early next morning and home after a 36 hour micro adventure.

Cooked everything on the woodstove having brought all our own wood. It reduces the impact on the environment but the Ti stoves are very sensitive to damp wood so well seasoned cut to the right length chunks make life easier.

Outstanding new kit was the Nitecore LR70 lantern. Great output and battery life. Note to other tipi style tent users bring low backed camp chairs, the high backed variety forces the chair into the centre of the tent reducing liveable space for all.

Here's to more cold weather!

Thanks for that; sadly nobody fancies putting the canoes on the water in this weather these days :( I used to enjoy the sound of the canoe breaking through the ice :)

The missing paddle looks a bit weird in photo 3! In fact, the whole reflection looks wrong - what's going on?

The photo is upside down - confused me at first too!

Amazing, I only got out in my canoe last year a few times on a local river. Must make more of an effort this year.
