After looking at some inspirational wood spirits on sticks etc I thought i'd give it ago myself , wasnt up to anythinf as detailed as the woodspirit faces etc so I tried a pheasant on my walking stick . I had inperfection on the stick so this got rid of that nicely ! quite happy with the way it has turned out . Although if I hadnt of coloured it in with felt pen im not sure if it would look identifyable as being a pheasant .

let me know what you guys think and any advice would be great where needed :)

Thats great for a first attempt, I like the idea of a carved section with an animal outline carved into it, might try it myself
The difficult part is probably keeping the outline sharp without it splitting, but you've done well :35:

I was expecting something like this .....

My first attempt at a pheasant , took a couple of months to complete, carved out of a lime block, fitted onto hazel shaft, painted , varnished and glass eyes fitted (they make loads of difference in the finished product!, much more realistic)
Thanks for sharing your pics :)

Did you do that with just a knife? Pretty good going :) I really like how you coloured it, I'm always afraid of painting my carvings

I carved it with my pocket knife and tided the edges with a needle file [ its actually for metal but worked ok ] I also used the knife just to score it abit to give the feathered look !! ps I just used sharpie markers nothing fancy and abit of sandpaper
