Can people give an idea of what items they would like to see in a generic First Aid Kit as standard - I'm assuming people are not thinking Plasters but what items are people thinking should be.

Basic list as you put up, maybe 4"israeli as well? Some say rolled guaze and an elasticated bandage will pack/pressure more different wounds than an israeli type - maybe is as useful to have that and a 6" so best of both worlds?
Dunno if theres interest in 2xchest seals (little chance of gunshot wounds, but impaling a possibility???)
Most little stuff is gonna be too much of a faff to agree, and more likely to be sorted from existing stocks, so i would favour a simple list of the bigger items, bought at a bulk discount, and the option of a breakaway/other specialised pouch for those that want. Just deciding/agreeing on a pouch will be hard enough!.
I can see why people are being reticent!
Nice one for being brave enoughto start this! Richard

I think you need to decide what the kit is for. The list above is basically an IFAK (individual first aid kit). Good for traumatic injury to yourself or one other person. Should it be a general kit instead for booboos (minor injuries)? Is it for personal use or for other people?

IFAK (basics to cover major bleeds and associated hypothermia):
  • x1 tourniquet (CAT, SWAT?)
  • x1 major pressure dressing (Israeli, H&H?)
  • x1 compressed z fold gauze (with or without haemostatic agent like Celox)
  • x1 chest seal
  • x1 small roll of duct tape (4 or 5m)
  • x2 packs of 10cmx10cm gauze pads
  • x1 mylar blanket
  • x1 shears
  • permanent marker
Booboo kit (bumps scrapes and minor injuries) complementing the IFAK and personal use only:
  • plasters/larger dressings/non-adhesive dressings/ambulance dressings in various sizes
  • steristrips
  • zinc oxide tape
  • tweezers
  • x2 sterile woven triangular bandages
  • safety pins
  • x2 crepe conforming bandage
  • vet wrap self adhesive bandages
  • wound cleansing wipes
  • x2 packs of 10cmx10cm gauze pads
  • small biohazard/disposal bag
  • medications -general (pain, anti-nausea, antihistamine, rehydration powder, glucose gel, aspirin, antiseptic cream, burn gel, sun balm. etc)
  • medications - personal
If the kit is to use on other people include:
  • x2 vent-aid resuscitation shields
  • x4 pairs nitrile gloves
  • cas care record card
  • x1 chest seal (with wipes and razor for prepping chest)
  • small pen torch
  • pulse oximeter
  • extra of all the basic supplies listed above
The items in bold should be included only if you have the training to use them. Get it wrong and you can make things worse.

Also interested depending on price. Personally I prefer 4" Israeli rather than 6" as it stores more easily and is almost as good.
Having said that my woods/chainsaw kit has both! CAT tourniquet is quite impressive and needs less practice than CAT 7.
I think the bag is also important too as most I've tried are either too small, too big or just plain naff quality.
