I've never tried this but it looks like fun and it's very ingenious.

There's some other interesting stuff on the rest of the sight too.

Neat but there's a basic problem with the concept, in use for bushcraft purposes at least.

If you have to boil the water first, to get the gasses out, you've got to have fire already.

Still like the idea though ;) I'm wondering if there's pracicle way of getting the gasses out by lowering the pressure.

First thoughts are a tall thin rigid container filled with water, ballon or condom sealed at the edges and the whole apperatus turned upside down.

Hmm if I recal my physics at a guess 32ft of hosepipe might do the trick.

I don't have a 32ft high freezer, any one in a colder climate want to give it a go?

[edit] if you do it's the top part of the water you want as the bottom will be under atmospheric pressure ( which is roughly 32 ft of water )
