Now derived of my beloved jungles, I am spending time on "primitive" home improvements.

I need to build a fence to keep my dogs in lest I upset the entire neighboorhood.

There is lots of thick walled bamboo up to 3" thick and lots of smaller stuff around 1cm or half an inch.

I have a parang and a Mora but I do not have any suitable material for lashing or cordage e.g split rattan, roots or climbers or branches to make withys.

What kind of fence can I make?

I have started on a fence which involves weaving flexible small diameter bamboo alternatively o different sides of upright bamboo posts in the ground. Like the trail a slalom skier makes.

But I think there is only enough small stuff to do one stretch of fence not more.

I have started on laying horizontal large bamboo poles on top of each other to make a wall and kept in place with vertical poles on either side like this (bird's eye view)

--:-----------:------------:--

Is there any other method that I can follow to get a fence up ?

your house!
What about stripping the the bark of the bamboo down to make withies, and make a fence like a five bar gate, but with more diaganals, if that makes sense. i think you can soak the bamboo strips to soften them into a more bendable state.mabey.

In the woods if possible.
I think you need stock-proof netting:

My other half and I home rescue dogs. One animal, Lady, could scale an eight foot fence and then perch on the top strand of barbed wire, all four feet in a row, daring you to try to catch her. Of course if you took one step towards her the next time you'd see her would be in the police pound and you'd be lucky if she hadn't killed anything in the meantime. She also taught one of our other hopeless cases, Guido, to dig holes for her. Guido was a bit of a bruiser but dumb as a sack of hammers. When the hole was big enough for Lady to leave, Guido would usually stop digging and try to follow her out. Almost invariably he would get stuck in the hole.

After several escapes we eventually settled on 2.4m cranked concrete posts:

with 2.1m chainlink:

plus 800mm stock-proof netting

http://www.oakdalefencing.co.uk/wirefencing

at the bottom wired to the chainlink, plus an extra 500mm stock-proof net laid flat on the ground and wired to that to prevent digging, plus a further 500mm stock-proof net at the top to prevent climbing.

I put weldmesh on the gates:

That stopped her.

Lady was always very frightened of thunder and fireworks. During a particularly noisy firework display by a neighbour, an employee went to check on her but didn't properly close the gate. In her frantic struggle to get away from the noise Lady managed to climb partly through the gap in the gate, but got stuck and hanged herself.

"Is it all worth it?", you might ask.

Well I'm blinking back the tears as I write, so what do you think?

ged,

That Lady sounds like Scrub, our dingo cross, right down to the fear of lightning and thunder and the dumb mutt sidekick. Took us 6 months before we were able to prevent breakouts.

She has calmed down down now that she is 7 years and as long as she gets walkies and run time in the forest she is fine.

If anything happened to her I'd be bawling my eyes out. She has kept or home and kids safe for many years but we can't have her walking around freely.

Tom R,

The Danish fence is similar to what I am doing except I am using bamboo instead of wood for the supports. Also since it is bushcraft and not craft I'm doing it without chain saws, hammers and nails just one parang
