So we have had the favourite bands. How about favourite movies?

I watch movies a lot. I go to the movies every week.

If I have to write down my favourites (at the moment), then this is the list:

Godfather trilogy,
Lucky number Slevin,
Die hard 1-4
The Boondock Saints (you have to see this one!)
Dumb and Dumber (some hate it, some love it :D )
A clockwork orange
Full Metal Jacket
Trainspotting,
Requiem for a Dream,
Braveheart
And last, but not least!!!!: HOOLIGANS :D

So what are your favourites?

For my money it has to be 'The Big Sky' with Kirk Douglas. Black and white but stuffed with Bushcraft, canoeing, scenery etc. can't beat it!:D

Beowulf and Grendel
Black Robe
The Ballad of Cable Hougue
Gladiator
The Shootist

Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
Star Trek

A cruel thread as I will want to keep adding to it....

The Apartment - won 1960 best picture something or other; Jack Lemmon and
Shirley Maclaine

The Odd Couple - Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon; Neil Simon at his finest

Jurassic Park - it's the music at the beginning that does it for me and the sheer
magnitude of it. I desperately wanted to be a palaeontologist when I was little.

The Dish - funny, touching and full of great shots of a bloomin' big dish.

Night of the Hunter - perfect cult movie. Directed by Charles Laughton, with Robert
Mitchum and Lilian Gish. The music is sublime - try this from YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFzTBPy7nl8
Allow yourself an uninterrupted 9 minutes and 48 seconds to be transported to another
era with menacing lullabies in the background. There's wildlife and a river journey so it
is even a wee bit bushcrafty.

Shakespeare in Love - popcorn fluff, yes - but a brilliant re-edit of Shakespeare's stuff.

Amelie - sweet, and suffused with wonderful colours in each scene.

Excalibur - an early outing for Charlie Boorman and introduced me to Wagner!

The Wicker Man - with Gently Johnny still in it, but I shan't post the YouTube link as I
suppose it might be parental advisory lyrics hehe.

O Brother where art thou - it's very funny of course, but I am entranced by the music.

... and quite a few of yours as well (LOTR - there are no words to describe its brilliance :D)
