F1 and the Eggen

Im sure this has been discussed before, but im unsure whether to get the helle eggen or the fallkniven F1, the problem i have is i hate both the sheaths, i prefer the helle as a knife but am leaning to the F1 as the belt sheaths in the 'woodlore' style with the firesteel holders for these knives are widely availiable, does anyone out there know if i can get the same style sheath for the eggen, i think i saw one on here for sale whilst searching for the eggen for £25, this sheath was perfect and i fell in love, so if anyone can point me in the direction of one for around the same price i would be eternally grateful.

Okay Tom, people on here wuld be truly saddened if I didn't offer my opinion on the F1.

Its a pig. The metal is too thick, the gind is the most godawful convex it has ever been my misfortune to encounter. The handle is truly appaling and designed as an instrument of torture. The lines are crude and unimaginative and the point is slightly too round to spread butter. I would describe it as an axe in the wrong orientation other than the fact that my axes make far better knives than an F1.

The knife is an absolute horror - I hated mine so much that I couldn't bring myself to accept money for it!

Avoid it like the plague

ROFL, i think i might avoid the F1 then, ive never truly liked it, i love the eggen but ive tried the sheath it comes with and imho its b**lo*ks, so thanks for 100% convincing me, im only a simple man so convincings easy. So im getting the eggen but does anyone know about a sheath for it.

Tom - talk to Singteck on here. He's done so much leather work for me its not true - at least 6 axe masks, three or four pouches and gawd knows what else. All cheap. All great.
Do an advanced search on posts by "singteck". Then click on his name and drop hom a PM explaining what you want.

The other guy on here who could sort you out is Rapidboy. Had a couple of things from him ad they were both good.

The Helle is a vastly superior knife (IMHO), so good call

Hi Lionheart,

I would go Helle, I have an S1 and its ok, but I prefer scandi grind and the handle on a Helle will be much better.

Give the supplier of my Harmoni a try, he is the sole UK importer for Helle, it may be cheaper than anyone else.

Helle all the way for me... The Eggen is nice, I used to have one... gave it to a needy friend... My girlfriend still has a Helle Harding - very happy with it.

Fair play Johan - my hatred of the knife is well known . You will note however that the author describes the knife as not good at carving or food prep (what kind of knife is that ?) and stated they had to regrind it!
Now I know a lot of people rate this knife but a knife that can't cut wood or meat and has to be re-ground says it all to me!

If the f1 "can't cut wood", I challenge you to a test, sir. A test that will sort out this arguement.
How about we start with firesticks, who can produce the finest tinder, you with your scandi knife or me and my f1..
Next test is veg....Carrots....Which knife will cut the carrot the best, all the scandi's I have used tear there way through carrots....
If you can think of any more tests Red, hit me with your best, otherwise I will meet you at the clock tower at noon.....

Filleting a fish?

Cleaning a bird?

Any more for any more?

Fantastic......I have not done some of those things before, I thought you normally used a sponge for cleaning a bird.....But I am not woosing out, no way. We shall do a photo of all the tests to show every one.....Right a bit and a bit more stropping is in order......What knife are you going to use then, not that it matters to me.....

We may not get to do them all (its the wrong time of year for birds) but we can do enough to prove the point. We will need to wait till the PFK is finished - or in the mean time (if you are in a hurry), I'll use my Magnus knife (you know how sharp that is)

You can use whatever scandi knife you want mate and your new knife would be a good test, but you don't know that knife yet, so I would advise against that, but your choice.... This is gonna be fun I reckon....
