This gentleman spent 10 years or so travelling to the Russian Lapland and gives a pretty good picture of that region after the fall of the iron curtain.
Just reading that one at the moment - Borders have got it in their '3 for 2' offer. It is an excellent read - the historical aspects were surprising. It would give you an idea of attitude, geography, met, people demographic groups, but virtually nothing on bushcraft aspects. Shame - my only criticism but, hey, you can't please all of the people, etc, etc.
