Not sure it's your thing but I used to eat fig rolls. They seemed to last for a long time and when out and about they are very good for giving you long term energy. I used to do long walks with two packs emptied into a large plastic bag.

I used to like them a lot but I ate too many and got sick of them. So I stopped taking them. The funny thing about that, I stopped getting bouts of the squits when pushing myself on long walks after I stopped eating . Coincidence or related? I do not know for sure but I think that is a risk.

No coincidence, figs are a known laxative :)

Don't I know it!! :poop::poop::poop::poop:

However I also got the squits on longer, faster paced walks too so it was an element of runners runs. I can';t recall what the correct term for it is, but there is such a thing as long distance runners giving themselves issues in that way.

I bought some of these in the past as emergency rations, again though quite high in sugar and fat as is typical, at least the fat is sustainable palm oil rather than seed oil. Pretty sure I bought in bulk online at much lower price though.

Well, their shelf life isn't huge, but I can report a Nature Valley Protein bar (very hasty breakfast) sustained me all day yesterday, six hours of which was in the hostile and testing environment of an NHS emergency department. Can't say I like them much, but they do a job. And the bars aren't bad either... (Ba-boom tish!)

I did purchase and sample some of the Protein energy bars at Lidls in the last few days.
( They do offer quite a few Vegan options for the zealots out there )

Varying around the £1.50 per bar mark - around 150-170cals each - shelf life of 6month or less. - Protein ( if thats important to you ) of 15-20g per bar. 3/4 different flavours.

All good enough to throw in a bag but not a long shelf life so you'll just be eating them and suitably justifying it. It wouldn't be a case of having your 5 year 'emergency ration' being lugged around in the top pouch of your bergen gathering grime and rucksack lint for the the forseeable..

If you stack these up against something like the Real Meal bars at £4.99 per bar - 600cals and a Two year shelf life - price wise they work out the same and size and weight probably the same. Could be argued 4 smaller bars are better than one big bag as you have more options and don't need to break into it in one go.

Well, I've put one of those Belvita Soft Bakes away in storage to test. Each bar is individually sealed in a wrapper so I suspect it will last a lot longer than the SBD. I need to set an appointment in my calendar to test it in 2 or 3 years time :)

They pretty quickly taste stale and not very nice.
