I read that, he was not lost, just wanted to be in the bush and only came out when he realized people were missing him.

goes out into the wilderness having a good time contemplating his place in the universe and then people want him to come home, I wonder if he was thinking, why can't people just leave me alone

Probably should have told his parents so they didn't worry but I can totally understand what he did.. Good guy!
