I know we all like our sharps😞
I like many others have a gransfors sfa I also gave bought older pattern axe heads In need of love.
Well for some time I've been using a 4 odd quid rubbishy 11/2 lb axe for kindling and chopping pallets etc that I wouldn't go anywhere near with sfa.
Anyhoo thought I'd do a bit of a tart up of it

I've stripped the horrid paint, varnish and ser to it with a file and axe stone.
I reckon 20 mins tops...

Now don't get me wrong it's not a great tool BUT for someone starting out on a budget... will it cut wood yes...will it last 30 years no...will it need sharpening regularly yes....am I bothered if it gets damaged HELL NO!

I keep large and small versions of the B&Q axe with the plastic handle. I just won't use a "good" axe to chop out tree roots amongst stones and soil (for example).

The same with knives - I have some horrors of wrecking knives and Moras used for "homesteading" tasks.

Tool vanity is for people who don't do enough tasks Dave

Agree with red there

I'v got three grades of axe. Bushcraft, work, and rough......as you say dave, no way should you be chopping up pallets with gransfors or anything expensive
